Emma Gluyas B.A.(Hons) (CTTLS)
Artistic Practice

Emma is an artist who works from her home studio primarily in oils, and also enjoys painting in watercolour and acrylics.

Her work includes subjects in nature, land/seascapes and she has an interest in portraiture and figures.

Emma has always been an artist and from an early age was encouraged to paint by her dad who was also a painter. He was accepted into art school but unfortunately could not pursue this as a career and had to work to help support his family. This resonated with Emma and she was determined to make art her career as a tribute to her father. He carried on painting at home and Emma would 'borrow' his paints and try to paint what he was painting. Her father was extremely supportive in Emma's career and encouraged her in making art her job. Her mother was also supportive and loved the arts, especially ballet, opera and theatre.

Emma grew up in a creative family household with art and the arts being paramount in her childhood.

                                                                        .............................................................

Emma regards her art is her vocation in life and paints every day. It is a necessity in her daily routine whereby she joined the 'Daily Painting Movement' after reading the book 'Daily Paintings' by Carol Marine. She paints every day, or most days, whenever she can.

Emma works from still life, photographs and loves painting 'en Plein air, in the summer months she likes to work outside, painting her local area of Warwickshire and often sketches on holiday. The ever changing landscape, capturing light and colour are what she likes to re-create, finding painting outside and being in the moment very rewarding and challenging.

"I am in love with oils and have found as I have developed my artistic practice this is my medium of preference. I love being able to move the paint, blend and build a painting, I especially like the feel of the oily buttery consistency of the paint while using the 'Alla prima' technique.

I enjoy painting in the comfort of my studio, but also 'en Plein air '', being at mercy to the elements and changing light keeps my technique quick where I do not overpaint and worry about the small stuff. I just do it!"

Emma has a B.A. (Hons) in Art & Craft Studies from Coventry University and a Teachers Certificate (CTTLS), from Warwick University.

As well as being a working artist she is a lecturer for Adult Education in Coventry teaching in all disciplines of art, she also provides workshops at various venues in Warwickshire.

"I find teaching so rewarding. Watching my students grow in their own artistic practice gives them confidence in other parts of their lives as well as with their painting, it is so amazing and inspiring to see."

Emma also teaches one to one at her home studio in Coventry, West Midlands, UK.

Appointments to visit Emma's studio, see her work or have one to one teaching can be arranged, contact her by email at artyem@hotmail.co.uk or on the web site.
