Emma Gluyas B.A.(Hons) (CTTLS) Artistic Practice

Emma is an Artist and Plein Air Painter working in oils.

Painting Plein Air is her preferred way of working, being outside with nature and capturing her chosen view has many benefits, including a sense of 'being there' or creating a moment in time.

Light, colour and atmosphere are her main inspirations, painting on the beach or in a field, whatever the weather or time of day.

Emma also works from her studio painting still life objects, finding that mainly working from life sharpens her drawing as well as her painting skills. With this way of working, Emma can keep developing her plein air practice, making painting out a little easier when capturing her view.

There are instances where Emma works from her own photographs producing memories taken on her travels or a walk. These pieces also make up her portfolio of capturing the landscape.

With a passion for oil paint, Emma enjoys the buttery consistency, how the oils can be applied, and the sheer intensity of colour that cannot be replicated in any other paint medium.

Her favourite colours are Ultramarine Blue, Yellow Ochre and Burnt Umber with a bit of Lemon Yellow for those honey highlights.

She never uses black in her work, choosing to make her own blacks provides her work a soft but realistic colour palette.

Pet Portrait Commissions

Emma enjoys painting pets as part of her artistic practice. She works to commission on Pet Portraits providing oil paintings for her customers, connecting to her clients in a different way. This is a rewarding and personal part of her work, especially when handing the portrait over, waiting for that emotional reaction and feelings of joy.
