Emma Gluyas Artist & Plein Air Painter.
Oil Painter of Landscapes, Seascapes and Still Life.
"I love to paint outside whatever the weather, whatever the season, the feelings of freedom and light are what I crave. When painting plein air, I like to take my pochade box, oil paints, fold up chair and paint what takes my eye on the day. Painting outside is totally different to painting in the studio. For one, the elements are in charge, the light changes all the time and I always forget something in my kit bag! However, the rewards out way all of this. Painting in the fresh air can be exhilarating and inspiring and I find movement and energy within my work is more direct. When painting en plein air I tend to work quicker with little overpainting in my subjects, always chasing the light and working to its time frame. There is something quite special painting outside, I come home feeling relaxed, refreshed and more aware of maybe historical stories, forms in nature or even a little more tired from the day's concentration levels. I just love to paint, indoor, outdoor, on a seaside pier, on a train, on holiday! My sketch book and pochade box accompanies me everywhere I go, always at my side, my trusted arty companion".
